The Endicott College baseball squad entered the national championship with a 44-14 record, having fought back from a 3-0 hole to force a decisive Game 3 after an 11-10 walk-off victory earlier in the day.
A Narrow Defeat in Extra Innings
Denison University, the nation’s top-ranked team, rallied in the tenth inning, with Jack Lutte delivering a walk-off RBI single that sealed a 4-3 victory. The Gulls had taken an early lead when TJ Liponis launched a two-run homer in the third, but Max Fishbein answered with a solo shot in the fifth to get Denison on the board.
The game seesawed, with Denison tying the contest in the sixth inning on two runs. Adam Regan’s leadoff double in the seventh gave Endicott a fresh spark, yet Devin Parker’s 7 ⅓ innings of two-hit, shutout relief kept the Gulls within striking distance.
Despite the final loss, the season stands as one of the most successful in program history. Endicott finished with a 44-14 record, while Denison closed out their campaign at 52-3, having won 44 straight games earlier in the spring.
