Enzo Infelise, a freshman catcher for the Cincinnati Bearcats, was recently selected to the National College Baseball Writers’ Association Freshman All‑America second team, a distinction that underscores his rapid rise in the collegiate ranks.
During the 2026 season Infelise topped all NCAA freshmen with 85 hits while batting .374, adding 10 home runs, 48 runs batted in, 10 doubles and 38 runs scored, numbers that place him among the most productive first‑year players in recent memory.
His performance also set a new benchmark for Bearcats freshmen, matching the school record for hits and marking the first time a Bearcat freshman has earned Freshman All‑American honors since Griffin Merritt in 2022.
A Historic Season for the Bearcats
Coach Jordan Bischel highlighted the player's impact, noting that Infelise will return for the 2027 campaign alongside a core group of underclassmen, a move that bodes well for the program’s continuity.
Defensively, Infelise posted a fielding percentage of .992 and contributed to the team’s catching corps behind Jack Natili, whose strong arm resulted in 13 of 35 stolen‑base attempts being thwarted; Natili’s .993 fielding percentage remains slightly ahead.
Beyond the stats, Infelise earned Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and first‑team all‑conference recognition, cementing his status as one of the league’s most promising talents.
The accolades reflect not only individual excellence but also a broader resurgence for the Cincinnati program, which has seen its recruiting class anchored by players like Quinton Coats, Ryan Tyranski, Derrick Pitts, Adam Buczkowski, Lance Durham and others who are expected to shape the next era.
