North Dakota State College of Science announced this week that Eric Sarno has been appointed as the new head coach of the women's soccer team, bringing nearly two decades of coaching experience across youth, high school, collegiate and international settings.
Sarno’s career spans continents, having led programs in the United States, Canada, Uganda, Egypt and the Bahamas, and he holds both a Canada Soccer Association C License and a U.S. Soccer Federation D License. His global outlook is matched by a track record of community service and development projects in Africa and the Caribbean.
A Global Vision for Local Success
Athletic Director Reggie Jackson highlighted Sarno’s extensive recruiting network and his ability to attract talent, noting that the coach has already secured eight student‑athletes for the upcoming season and extended offers to several others.
Among the early commitments are forwards Emma Rohrich and midfielder Jaeda Zimmerman, who join a recruiting class that Sarno describes as the foundation for a competitive future. He emphasized the importance of building a program that balances athletic ambition with academic growth.
Sarno expressed enthusiasm for the challenge, stating that he is eager to develop a strong team culture at NDSCS and to give student‑athletes the tools to succeed both on the field and in the classroom.
With dual American‑Canadian citizenship and a résumé that includes three FIFA Women’s World Cup appearances, Sarno brings a unique blend of experience and perspective. He plans to leverage those connections to enrich the program’s recruiting pipeline and to position NDSCS as a rising force in collegiate soccer.
