A New Era for Central Kitsap Football
Mark Keel hung up his playbook after 26 seasons as head coach of the Central Kitsap Cougars, a stint that produced a career record of 125‑127. His departure comes at a time when the program has not reached the state championships since 2009 and finished the 2025 season with a 3‑7 record, tying for fourth in the Class 3A Puget Sound League’s Narrows Division.
Eric Schuette, who spent 23 years as Keel’s defensive coordinator, now steps into the top role. He brings a deep familiarity with the team’s culture and a focus on rebuilding relationships with players, aiming to create a more positive high school football experience.
The Cougars’ roster will look different in 2026. Recent transfers include Uriah Stringfield, Timothy Sousou and Noah Smith arriving from other schools, while former standouts Jordan House and Lincoln Barnes have moved out. Alongside Schuette, the staff features former players Howard McDonald and Zac Brown, forming a blend of experience and fresh perspective.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Schedule
Preseason games are slated against Spanaway Lake, Olympic and several other opponents, providing early opportunities to test new schemes and chemistry. The coaching staff hopes these matchups will translate into improved on‑field performance and a stronger finish than the previous season’s 3‑7 record.
