Eric Weddle, a former Utah Utes standout and Super Bowl LVI champion, has been selected as the 2026 inductee into the Utah Football Ring of Honor, a recognition that will be celebrated during the team's September 12 home matchup against Arkansas.
A Career of Excellence
Weddle’s collegiate journey at Utah from 2003 to 2006 cemented his place among the program’s all‑time greats, culminating in a consensus first‑team All‑American nod in 2006 and a pivotal role on the 2004 undefeated squad that finished 12‑0.
During his four seasons in Salt Lake City he amassed 277 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 18 interceptions and nine forced fumbles, numbers that still rank near the top of the school’s record books and helped the team compile a 37‑12 overall record.
Off the Field Impact
Now serving as the head coach at Rancho Bernardo High School in Poway, California, he also runs a jewelry line whose proceeds support organizations that assist victims of domestic violence, a venture that earned him the 2022 Utah Athletics Hall of Fame induction.
His latest accolade places him alongside other legends in the Ring of Honor, a hall that celebrates not only on‑field achievement but also community impact, and his inclusion also marks his entry into the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class.
Honors and Legacy
The Ring of Honor, which includes players and coaches who have distinguished themselves in college, professionally and in service to the community, reflects Weddle’s multifaceted contributions to the sport and to society.
Urban Meyer, who coached Weddle during his final season at Utah, and Kyle Whittingham, his longtime defensive coordinator, have both praised the former safety’s leadership and work ethic, underscoring the lasting influence he has had on teammates and mentors alike.
The ceremony will take place during the Utah versus Arkansas game on September 12, offering fans a chance to celebrate a career that spanned college stardom, NFL excellence and charitable advocacy.
