Collierville High School announced this week that Erik Buggs will serve as the next head coach of the varsity boys basketball team, succeeding Jarvis Stephen, who compiled a 21‑37 record over two seasons.
A Playing Legacy
Buggs' basketball journey began at Valparaiso University, where he became the all‑time leader in games played. After college, he pursued a professional career overseas from 2013 to 2016, gaining experience that would later inform his coaching philosophy.

He also served as associate head coach at Houston during a TSSAA Class 4A state‑title run, and previously contributed at Memphis Catholic and Kingsbury high schools.
School leaders highlighted his passion and leadership, expressing confidence that his blend of playing and coaching experience will leave a lasting impact on the program.
Community Outlook
Players and parents alike have welcomed the transition, anticipating a fresh approach and renewed competitiveness on the court as the new coaching staff takes shape.
Looking Ahead
Buggs has outlined a focus on player development, discipline, and cultivating a culture that reflects the school’s values, with the goal of guiding the team toward sustained success in the seasons to come.
