Revamped camera architecture for the 2026 Little League Baseball World Series
ESPN is expanding its onsite studio presence for the 2026 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, PA, bringing a suite of cutting‑edge production tools to both Howard J. Lamade Stadium and Volunteer Stadium.
A restored RailCam now runs on a 100‑foot track between left and center field at Lamade, offering unique angles on defensive plays and crowd reactions. The system is paired with a Sony HDC‑P50 camera that delivers 3X super‑slow‑motion footage of outfield action and home‑run swings.
At Volunteer Stadium, ESPN has installed a high‑frame‑rate hard camera in left field and added RF handheld positions, while also deploying a 4DReplay rig that circles the plate with 50 Panasonic 4K cameras to reconstruct hitter mechanics from every angle.
Both venues now share a complementary camera complement that includes robotic units, Supracam aerial devices, and drone platforms, ensuring that every pivotal moment is captured with multiple perspectives.
The production infrastructure relies on a 43,000‑foot fiber network linking Game Creek Video trucks — Bird A/B for Lamade, Magic A/B for Volunteer, and a dedicated GameDay studio truck — while The Switch handles transmission with redundant uplinks, IP pathways and a TVU backup.
Over 60 cameras and 16 12‑channel EVS replay machines are stationed across the two fields, feeding isolated audio from a Shure DCA901 Broadcast Microphone Array that supplies up to eight independent channels via Dante.
The tournament will conclude with the International Championship on August 29 at 12:30 p.m. ET, the U.S. Championship later that afternoon, and the overall World Series title on August 30 at 3 p.m. ET, all airing on ABC.
Meg Aronowitz, senior vice president of production at ESPN, emphasized the partnership with Little League and the event’s wholesome narrative, noting that the broadcast will focus on the stories of athletes, families and the communities that support them.
The production team includes specialists Brock Wetherbee and Joe Rainey, operations producers Dave Walker, Kelsey Hahn and Carson Kenney, and coordinators Jalen Taylor and Gianfranca Focareta, who together orchestrate the complex logistics behind the scenes.
