A Mutual Departure
Gotham FC and forward Esther González have mutually terminated their contract, marking the end of a two‑season partnership that began in late summer 2023. González announced she will step away from professional soccer to focus on personal matters in Spain.
The club’s president of soccer operations, Yael Averbuch West, issued a statement expressing gratitude for González’s contributions and wishing her and her family all the best in the next chapter.
A Record of Success
During her tenure, González became the club’s all‑time leading scorer with 33 goals, highlighted by a game‑winning strike in the 2023 NWSL Championship. She tallied 22 goals and five assists over two seasons, finished second in the 2025 Golden Boot race with 13 goals, and scored four times in her final three matches.
Her nine braces with Gotham FC tied Megan Rapinoe for the most braces at a single club, underscoring her knack for decisive moments. González also helped the team capture two NWSL championships, a Concacaf W Champions Cup, and an NWSL Challenge Cup.
Both the club and González reflected on fond memories and the impact of her presence, with González thanking the organization for the opportunity to wear the Gotham colors.
