Ethan Butler, a 6‑foot‑6, 202‑pound guard from Manhattan, has officially pledged to the Syracuse Orange for the 2026‑27 campaign, becoming the fifth freshman to join head coach Gerry McNamara’s incoming class.
Butler’s basketball journey began at Saint Francis Preparatory School in Queens, where he honed his skills before moving to the professional development league Overtime Elite, where he appeared in 17 games and posted averages of 5.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
His father, Eric Butler, was a member of the Orange men’s soccer team during his college years, linking the family to a longstanding connection with Syracuse athletics.
The commitment adds to a roster that now stands at 15 scholarship players, comprising four returning veterans, five fresh recruits and six transfers, positioning the Orange for a competitive season ahead.
A Family Legacy in Upstate New York
Eric Butler’s previous involvement with the Orange soccer program not only provided a personal connection for Ethan but also underscored a multi‑generational affinity for Syracuse sports, a narrative that resonates with fans and analysts alike.
The upcoming season will see the Orange integrate Butler alongside a blend of experienced returnees and newly arrived transfers, a mix that could reshape the team’s dynamics and on‑court strategies.
