Ethan Offing Chooses College Over Immediate MLB Path
Ethan Offing, a Dutch Fork High School graduate and member of Clemson’s Class of 2026, has become a focal point of this year’s MLB Draft after the Boston Red Sox selected him in the 18th round.
Rather than signing and heading straight to the professional ranks, Offing has elected to keep his commitment to Clemson, where he will enroll in summer courses and continue developing both on the diamond and in the classroom.
His decision follows a high‑school career that saw him excel as a starting quarterback, guiding Dutch Fork to an undefeated season and a state championship as a junior, while also batting .449 as a senior with 40 hits, 27 RBIs, eight doubles and five home runs.
Offing’s choice reflects a broader trend among top prospects who weigh the benefits of a college experience against the lure of an early draft, and he joins a small group of Clemson baseball signees who have been recognized in this year’s draft.
