Hamilton's new assistant GM brings a championship pedigree
The New York Islanders' AHL affiliate in Hamilton, Ontario, announced the appointment of Evan Gold as both assistant general manager and general manager of the Hamilton Hammers, marking a significant shift after the team’s relocation from Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Gold arrives with a résumé that includes a decade‑plus stint with the Boston Bruins, where he helped guide the Providence farm club to a 54‑16‑2‑0 record and 110 points in the 2023‑24 season, the best in franchise history.
Before that, Gold spent 12 years in the Bruins organization and eight seasons in the Washington Capitals’ hockey operations department, building a reputation for analytical rigor and player development.
Mathieu Darche, the Islanders’ executive vice president and general manager, highlighted Gold’s proven track record, stating that his results in hockey operations make him a natural fit for the organization’s pursuit of another Stanley Cup.
The move leaves Ryan Bowness, Steve Pellegrini and Chris Lamoriello in place as assistant GMs under Darche, with Lamoriello now concentrating on scouting and player‑personnel decisions after previously serving as the AHL GM in Bridgeport.
Both Gold and Darche are alumni of McGill University in Montreal, and Gold supplements his hockey expertise with an MBA and a law degree from the University of Toronto.
Gold said he is eager to join the Islanders family and contribute to a championship‑contending effort, underscoring the ambition that permeates the franchise.
