Evan Gold Returns to the Front Office
Evan Gold, who spent a dozen years with the Boston Bruins, has been announced as the new assistant general manager for the New York Islanders. The move, confirmed by team management, also places him in charge of the franchise’s AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Hammers.
In his expanded role, Gold will oversee contract negotiations, salary‑cap strategy and the Islanders’ scouting department. The hiring was made under the direction of General Manager Mathieu Darche, who cited Gold’s deep‑rooted experience as a key factor in reinforcing the club’s hockey operations.
Building a Contender on Long Island
Gold’s résumé includes a stint as assistant GM for the Bruins since 2023, during which the Providence Bruins captured at least 41 wins in each of the past three seasons and posted a league‑best 54 victories in the most recent campaign. His track record of player development and cap management was a decisive element in the Islanders’ decision.
Expressing appreciation for the opportunity, Gold said he is eager to help construct a Stanley Cup‑contending team on Long Island. “I’m excited to bring the knowledge and work ethic that helped the Bruins succeed to a new market,” he remarked, emphasizing the collaborative culture he hopes to foster.
The Islanders’ front office has undergone a series of changes this offseason. Long‑time assistant GM Jamie Langenbrunner departed for a senior advisory position with the Nashville Predators, while former Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams was brought in as a senior advisor to Bruins GM Don Sweeney. Additionally, Dennis Bonvie and Jeremy Rogalski were promoted to assistant general managers, and Alex Giminez assumed the role of director of hockey operations and collective bargaining agreement.
Mathieu Darche praised Gold’s “experience, intelligence and results” in hockey operations, noting that the team’s recent on‑ice success provides a solid foundation for future growth. The move signals a continued emphasis on blending internal promotion with external expertise as the organization seeks to return to the top tier of the sport.
