A New Era for the Islanders' Development Team
The Islanders have appointed Evan Gold as assistant general manager and general manager of their American Hockey League affiliate in Hamilton, a position that will also guide the club’s transition from Bridgeport to a new home in Hamilton.
Gold arrives after twelve years with the Boston Bruins organization, where he most recently served as director of legal affairs and general manager of the Providence Bruins. His tenure included three seasons as GM of Providence, during which the team made the playoffs each year and accumulated 110 points in the 2025‑26 season.
Mathieu Darche, the team’s senior assistant general manager, highlighted Gold’s expertise in contract negotiations, salary‑cap management and roster building, stating that his experience will be instrumental as the organization pursues continued growth.
The move coincides with the AHL squad’s recent achievement of clinching a postseason berth for the first time since the 2021‑22 campaign, underscoring the franchise’s upward trajectory under the new leadership.
First‑year head coach Jay McKee will collaborate closely with Gold, who will also oversee on‑ice operations and strategic planning as the club prepares for its inaugural season in Hamilton.
Chris Lamoriello will remain in the organization as an assistant general manager under Darche, ensuring continuity as the team navigates this transitional period.
