A Fairfax County soccer coach has been taken into custody after authorities uncovered a sophisticated fraud that siphoned nearly $60,000 from a dozen victims.
Ahmed Mohamed, who served as a coach with the Alexandria Soccer Association, allegedly promised participants a summer camp in Italy, using the prospect of international training to lure families into paying large sums.
Investigators say the scheme targeted 13 separate families, each losing anywhere from $2,000 to $12,000, money that was funneled through Mohamed’s role with the association.
In December 2025, Mohamed launched the Sporting Soccer Academy, a venture that advertised a travel summer camp in Italy. He collected deposits under the pretense of securing travel, lodging and camp activities, but never arranged the promised experiences.
Arrest and Detention
The breakthrough came on June 30, when Mohamed was arrested in Fair Oaks, Virginia. He was subsequently taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he remained pending further proceedings.
Prosecutors have now charged Mohamed with 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud, each count corresponding to a distinct victim. The case underscores the risks of unregulated youth sports programs and the need for vigilant oversight.
