A Fairfax County soccer coach has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of embezzlement and computer fraud after investigators say he swindled more than a dozen people out of nearly $60,000.
The alleged scheme, which prosecutors say ran under the guise of a summer soccer camp in Italy, targeted 13 victims who were promised elite training abroad. Losses per victim ranged from $2,000 to $12,000, according to court filings.
Ahmed Mohamed, 31, of Fairfax, allegedly used his position with the Alexandria Soccer Association to lend credibility to his venture. In December 2025 he launched the “Sporting Soccer Academy,” a bogus organization that advertised a travel camp in Italy to aspiring young players.
Arrest and Release
Mohamed was taken into custody on June 30 in the Fair Oaks neighborhood and subsequently released on his own recognizance after a brief stint at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
The case has sent shockwaves through the regional youth soccer circuit, raising questions about oversight of private training programs and the need for stricter financial monitoring.
