A Fairfax County soccer coach, Ahmed Mohamed, has been taken into custody after authorities say he orchestrated a scheme that bilked more than a dozen families out of nearly $60,000.
The Alleged Scheme
According to court filings, Mohamed created the Sporting Soccer Academy in December 2025 and marketed a summer camp in Italy to parents seeking elite training for their children. He collected payments for travel, lodging and camp fees, promising a two‑week experience abroad that never materialized.
Investigators say the deception stretched from November through March, with each victim losing anywhere from $2,000 to $12,000. The total financial loss is estimated at close to $60,000, a figure that reflects the cumulative contributions of the affected families.
The breakthrough came when a tip was submitted to the Fairfax County Police Department’s Financial Crimes Online Reporting system. Detectives traced the transactions and identified Mohamed as the primary suspect, leading to his arrest in the 4100 block of Monument Court near the Fairfax Towne Center.
Mohamed was subsequently booked at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center before being released on his own recognizance. He now faces 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud, each tied to separate victims and alleged fraudulent communications.
The case has drawn attention to the growing problem of fraudulent sports‑related scams that prey on families eager to provide competitive opportunities for their children. The Alexandria Soccer Association, where Mohamed was employed, has issued a statement confirming that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Mohamed’s next appearance is scheduled for September 2 in the Fairfax County General District Court, where a preliminary hearing will determine the course of the prosecution. Until then, the community remains on edge, awaiting justice for the families who say they were misled.
