The Bowling Green Falcons baseball team saw their Mid-American Conference tournament hopes evaporate after a 6-3 defeat to the Ball State Cardinals on Tuesday, a loss that left the Falcons with just two series victories all season.
Despite outhitting the Cardinals 10-8, the Falcons stranded 11 baserunners, including three in the ninth inning, a missed chance that proved decisive.
Coach Kyle Hallock’s squad entered the game needing a sweep of both Ball State and the UMass Minutemen to stay alive, but the Cardinals clinched the sixth and final tournament spot with the victory.
The Falcons now sit seventh or eleventh in the conference with two games remaining, a position that reflects a season marked by inconsistency.
The team’s only two MAC series wins came earlier in the year, and they have not posted 12 or fewer conference victories since 2019, underscoring the program’s recent struggles.
What the Loss Means for the Program
The outcome leaves the Falcons’ postseason aspirations in jeopardy, forcing the club to regroup before the final stretch of the schedule.
Players Zack Horky and Sam Seidel saw action in the loss, but the offense could not convert the early lead into runs.
The Cardinals secured the sixth and final spot in the MAC tournament, while the Falcons will conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Ball State on Saturday, the first game slated for noon and the nightcap 30 minutes later.
