Community Unity on the Diamond
The third annual Back the Blue baseball game took place on a sunny evening in Fargo, bringing together local summer league teams, families and civic leaders for a cause that hits close to home.
Organized by American Legion Post 400, the event has become a staple of the city’s summer calendar, channeling its proceeds to the North Dakota Peace Officers Association, which advocates for the welfare of state troopers and local officers.
A Tradition of Appreciation
Representatives from the Fargo Police Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation were on hand, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the gathering.
Fargo Police Chief Travis Stefonowicz added a ceremonial touch by throwing the first pitch, a moment that drew cheers from the crowd and highlighted the personal connection between law enforcement and the community.
Ava Nickel, social media director for Post 400, spoke about the importance of showing up for those who serve, noting that each dollar raised reflects a tangible gesture of gratitude.
Since its inception, the Back the Blue game has generated more than $3,000 in donations across its first two years, a modest sum that organizers hope to expand in coming seasons.
The game is more than a contest of hits and home runs; it is a living tribute to the men and women who patrol the streets, respond to emergencies and keep public spaces safe.
Local businesses and volunteers have rallied behind the initiative, providing refreshments, signage and a welcoming atmosphere that reinforces the message that the community stands behind its protectors.
