During a high‑profile visit to Munich, FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa and Executive Director Kamil Novak convened with the Albanian Basketball Federation (FSHB) to chart a comprehensive roadmap for the sport’s expansion in the country.
Strategic Dialogue on Youth and Referee Development
The discussion featured FSHB President Avni Ponari and Secretary General Ersi Oruci, who outlined Albania’s ambition to tap its largely untapped talent pool and to kindle basketball’s popularity among younger generations.
Central to the agenda were youth programmes, grassroots initiatives and the education of referees, with particular emphasis on mentorship projects and opportunities for international exposure.
Commitment to International Collaboration
FIBA Europe reaffirmed its full support for FSHB’s participation in global education programmes and technical assistance for national competitions, identifying key priorities for the next two four‑year development cycles.
The parties agreed that sustained investment in grassroots infrastructure and referee training will be pivotal to building a competitive pipeline and fostering long‑term engagement with the sport across Albania.
