Fike High School announced this week that Marcus Johnson will serve as its interim football coach, stepping into the role after the recent suspension of longtime leader Rocky Lewis.
Johnson, a 2006 graduate who once led the Fike Falcons as a quarterback, has been the school’s girls basketball coach since 2020, bringing a deep familiarity with the program’s culture and expectations.
A transitional phase for Falcon athletics
Alongside Johnson’s promotion, Toni Varacchi has been reinstated as interim athletic director, a position she previously held before stepping back to focus on her soccer responsibilities.
Varacchi, who has guided Fike’s soccer team for 24 years and earned a place in the school’s Hall of Fame, will now oversee the broader athletic portfolio while the district works toward a permanent appointment.
Rocky Lewis, who was suspended from his coaching duties, will continue his duties as a physical education teacher at Fike, a detail that underscores the school’s commitment to maintaining staff continuity.
The moves come as the Wilson school district seeks to stabilize its athletic programs and restore confidence among students, parents, and the community.
