Jayme Kontuniemi, a 6‑foot‑4 guard from Finland, is set to join the Troy Trojans for the 2026‑27 season after completing a redshirt year with the NC State Wolfpack.
A European breakthrough
Kontuniemi’s formative years were spent in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL) U20, where he helped his squad to a perfect 12‑0 record and the 2024‑25 EYBL U20 Championship. He also captured Finnish U19 regular‑season and league titles, showcasing his ability to dominate against top junior competition.
His professional résumé includes stints with Drive Basketball Academy Black U19, where he averaged 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists, as well as appearances for Omnia Espoo BA U20 in Sweden and Pantterit Helsinki in Finland’s first division.
A new chapter in Troy
The move marks a continuation of Kontuniemi’s development path that began with the Finnish U18 national team in 2023. Coaches at Troy see his defensive versatility and championship pedigree as assets that can deepen the roster ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Kontuniemi will link up with a program that has recently emphasized player growth and community engagement, aiming to translate his European experience into on‑court impact for the Trojans.
