Finnish forward Benjamin Rautiainen has signed a three‑year, entry‑level contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, a move that follows an unprecedented season in Finland’s Liiga.
A record‑breaking season
During the just‑finished campaign he amassed 77 points, the most ever recorded by a player before turning 21, and was crowned the league’s best player with the Lasse Oskanen Award.
Rautiainen also helped Tappara Tampere capture the championship, contributing seven points in 18 playoff games and assisting on the decisive game‑winning goal in the final.
His style of play draws comparisons to NHL stars Nikita Kucherov and Sidney Crosby, blending elite vision with a knack for creating space on the smaller North American rink.
General manager Julien BriseBois praised the forward’s “exceptional skill and playmaking ability,” noting that the organization is excited to see how his offensive instincts translate to the smaller ice surface.
The 21‑year‑old is already mapping out his adaptation to the tighter quarters of the NHL and has set his sights on eventually helping the Lightning chase the Stanley Cup.
