Firebells dominate Queens in weekend doubleheader
The Women’s Pro Baseball League opened its weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, featuring a decisive 17-3 victory for the San Francisco Firebells over the Los Angeles Queens on Friday night that lifted the Firebells to a 4-2 record and the top spot in the standings.
Kelsie Whitmore was the centerpiece of the win, throwing four solid innings that limited the Queens to two runs on five hits while striking out two, and then adding a grand slam that drove in six runs, marking her second consecutive game with a home run.
Her performance underscored a hot streak for the Firebells’ offense, as Whitmore’s bat has been on fire all season and her pitching gave the team a rare combination of dominance on both sides of the mound.
Adding to the excitement, Denae Benites continues to share the league lead in home runs, matching Whitmore at five each and keeping the power‑ranking race tightly contested.
Looking ahead, the Firebells will meet New York Heights in the first game of the doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. MDT, while the Queens will face the Boston Hunters in the second contest, set for 5:30 p.m. MDT.
Both matchups will be streamed live on ESPN Select for U.S. viewers and via the WPBL YouTube Channel for international audiences, ensuring fans can follow the action wherever they are.
