A Season of Optimism
Kansas baseball coach Dan Fitzgerald spoke recently about the program’s momentum as it looks ahead to the 2027 season, emphasizing a blend of experience and fresh talent that he believes can sustain the team’s upward trajectory.
The roster will feature returning standouts such as Augusto Mungarrieta, Dylan Schlotterback, Cade Baldridge and Tyson Owens, all of whom have proven themselves as elite competitors in the Big 12, while newcomers like Mason Cook, Riane Ritter, Boede Rahe, Emerson McKnight, Manning West and Madden Seidl are expected to add depth and versatility.
Fitzgerald highlighted the team’s secret sauce — its ability to bring in the right people — and noted that the coaching staff will give right‑handed pitchers Mason Cook and Riane Ritter every chance to start, while left‑handed Emerson McKnight and right‑handed Manning West have thrived this summer and will be evaluated for opening‑day roles.
Building a Deeper Lineup
Aiming for a 14‑player offensive lineup rather than the previous ten, the staff is working to diversify the batting order and increase flexibility, a move that Fitzgerald says will make the team more resilient against tough conference opponents. The departure of outfielder Savion Flowers to Sacramento State surprised many, yet Fitzgerald acknowledged the impact Flowers made in the recent Big 12 tournament and expressed confidence that the new additions will fill the void.
