Five Ball State Baseball Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

Student-athletes combine athletic achievement with high academic standards

Five members of the Ball State baseball squad have been named Academic All‑District by the College Sports Communicators, underscoring a distinctive blend of scholarly dedication and on‑field contribution.

Academic Excellence Meets Athletic Prowess

Eligibility for the honor requires student‑athletes to be at least sophomores, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and demonstrate significant participation in team contests.

John Chambers, who graduated with a premedical preparation degree, anchored the rotation with six victories and placed second on the team in innings pitched and strikeouts, a testament to both durability and skill.

Brett Griffiths earned a general studies degree while earning Second Team All‑MAC recognition and posting a .307 batting average, illustrating a balanced commitment to both academics and performance.

Max Kalk, a junior majoring in social studies education, served as the team’s primary catcher, compiling 28 hits and 23 runs that helped shape the lineup’s depth.

Zach Kwasny, also a junior in sport administration, contributed 42 strikeouts in just 41 innings out of the Ball State bullpen, showcasing effectiveness in a relief role.

Owen Quinn concluded his collegiate career with an 11‑3 record and 117 strikeouts, having graduated with a sport administration major and a management minor, and he repeated the Academic All‑District distinction for the second straight year.
