The Emporia State baseball program has added another chapter to its story of competitive excellence, this time highlighting academic achievement.
College Sports Communicators recently announced that five Hornets pitchers and position players have been selected to the Academic All-District team, a distinction that underscores the balance between rigorous scholarship and athletic performance.
The Making of an Academic All-District Player
To earn the honor, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 while meeting specific participation thresholds set by the NCAA Division II governance structure. The recognition also serves as a stepping stone toward the broader CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be released on June 23.
Among the honorees, Dylan Brisbois stands out with a 3.60 GPA in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, having appeared in 47 games as the team’s catcher. Grant Huffman, a 3.68-GPA Accounting major, earned First Team All-MIAA honors as a relief pitcher, while Jake Khasaempanth, a Business major with a 3.62 GPA, logged 24 appearances on the mound.
Logan Myers, also a Business major, posted a 3.60 GPA and was selected unanimously for the First Team All-MIAA, and Brady Unrein, a Business student with a 3.70 GPA, started 51 games throughout the season. Their collective achievements reflect a culture where the Hornets strive for distinction in both the classroom and the dugout.
A Broader Impact
The acknowledgment extends beyond individual accolades; it reinforces the university’s commitment to integrating academic rigor with athletic ambition. As the Division II CSC Academic All-America program receives partial support from the NCAA Division II national governance structure, these student-athletes exemplify the model of the scholar-athlete that the organization seeks to promote.
With the All-America teams set to be announced later this month, the Hornets’ academic contingent is poised to potentially add further national recognition to an already impressive season.
