Illinois Stars Shine in Senior Bowl Top 300
The 2027 Panini Senior Bowl has announced its Top 300 prospects, and among them are five standout athletes from the University of Illinois.
Defensive back Matthew Bailey, wide receiver Hudson Clement, quarterback Katin Houser, offensive lineman Jake Renfro, and defensive back Xavier Scott each bring distinctive credentials that helped them earn the nod.
Bailey, who anchored the Illini defense with a league‑leading tackle total in each of the past two seasons, was also selected to the AP All‑Bowl Team and earned two All‑Big Ten honors.
Clement arrived in Champaign as the second‑highest graded transfer wide receiver in the nation according to Pro Football Focus, having posted 36 catches for 454 yards and three touchdowns in his debut year.
Houser, a quarterback with 26 career starts, accumulated 6,438 passing yards and 43 touchdowns over four collegiate seasons, positioning him as a dual‑threat leader.
Renfro, an interior lineman, earned a spot on the 2025 Rimington Trophy Watch List and was ranked among the top transfer centers by 247Sports, underscoring his interior line prowess.
Scott contributed 49 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble during the 2024 campaign, highlighting his playmaking ability in the secondary.
Mobile, Alabama: The Bowl’s Historic Stage
The Senior Bowl itself will take place on January 30, 2027, at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, a venue that has become synonymous with the event’s storied tradition.
Since the bowl’s inception, 61 Fighting Illini have taken part, and ten of those under head coach Bret Bielema have transitioned to NFL careers, a testament to the program’s developmental pipeline.
For scouts, the Senior Bowl offers a rare, concentrated setting to evaluate prospects against one another, making the 2027 edition a pivotal checkpoint ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.
