Darius Wabbington, a five‑star center from Sunnyslope High, announced that he will no longer consider the Louisville Cardinals for his 2027 college commitment, ending a recruitment that had placed him among the nation’s most coveted big men.
Recruiting Landscape
Ranked ninth overall in the 2027 class, Wabbington also holds the No. 2 spot among centers and the No. 2 position from Arizona, bringing a blend of scoring, rebounding and shot‑blocking that made him a silver‑medal contributor for Team USA at the U18 level.
His high school résumé featured averages of 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, and he had narrowed his college considerations to Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas and Arizona before scheduling official visits to Louisville, Arizona and Texas.
The decision leaves Louisville in a heated five‑team battle for elite big men, a race that also includes the pursuit of the No. 1 overall prospect, CJ Rosser, and other top talents such as Lewis Uvwo, the seventh‑ranked center in the class.
Uvwo, who impressed at the Peach Jam showcase with a 6.0 blocks‑per‑game average, remains a prime target for the Cardinals, while head coach Pat Kelsey, who has a history of securing elite talent, continues to court multiple frontcourt prospects.
Despite the loss of Wabbington, Louisville’s recruiting pipeline stays active, with the program still in contention for the top pick and maintaining dialogue with prospects across the country, including DeMarcus Henry, Cayden Daughtry, King Gibson, Reese Alston, Jacob Polacheck and Jamie Shaw.
