South Carolina’s football program received a major boost this week as five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson announced his commitment to the Gamecocks, choosing the university over a slate of elite programs.
The Recruit's Journey
Dobson, a native of Cornelius, North Carolina, arrives as the highest-rated recruit to pledge to the program in three years, landing at No. 3 nationally among cornerbacks and No. 17 overall in the 247Sports Composite.
The decision was revealed on July 1 during a ceremony at his high school, capping a recruitment that had been closely watched by analysts and fans alike.
He had taken official visits to Columbia from June 19 through June 21, giving the coaching staff a chance to showcase the campus and facilities.
While LSU appeared in his top five, it was not among his final four, and the finalists also included Texas A&M, Michigan and Auburn.
Dobson’s pledge marks the third four-star or higher commitment for the 2027 class in just eight days, underscoring the accelerating momentum under head coach Shane Beamer.
The commitment follows recent five-star signings such as Nyck Harbor in 2023 and the 2024 five-star recruits Dylan Stewart and Josiah Thompson, building a foundation that could reshape the roster.
Beamer’s staff has also added four-star prospects Iveon Lewis and Kelvin Millington, while defensive coordinator Torrian Gray, promoted in December, continues to influence the defensive recruiting strategy.
Gray’s influence extends beyond the current class, having previously signed three defensive backs and secured Quay'sheed Scott via the transfer portal, indicating a broader vision for the program’s defensive depth.
