A Season of Scholarship and Success
Five members of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute baseball program have been recognized by the College Sports Communicators with spots on the 2025‑26 Academic All‑District team, a testament to their dual commitment on the mound and in the classroom.
The honorees — seniors Jacob Wiberg, Jonathan Lattimer, Jack Zawacki and Zachary Roethlein, along with sophomore Chuck Cappello — were selected from a competitive pool of student‑athletes across the region.
Jacob Wiberg, a computer science major, carries a 3.91 cumulative GPA while serving as the backbone of the WPI pitching staff, where he recorded 59 strikeouts and limited opponents to a .236 batting average.
Jonathan Lattimer, pursuing a mechanical engineering degree, maintains a 3.63 GPA and contributed a .286 batting average with 26 hits and 22 runs batted in.
Jack Zawacki, an electrical and computer engineering major, posts a 3.87 GPA and leads the team with a .303 average, having amassed 40 hits and 25 RBI.
Zachary Roethlein, an aerospace engineering student, holds a 3.54 GPA and ranks second on the team with a .333 batting average, showcasing consistency at the plate.
Chuck Cappello, a business major, balances a 3.83 GPA with a .315 average, totaling 41 hits and 21 RBI, underscoring his all‑around impact.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District honor is more than a plaque; it places these scholars in the conversation for the organization’s Academic All‑America team, an accolade that will be announced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
