Flag Football Takes Center Stage at the 2027 CFP

The College Football Playoff announced a historic collaboration with iFlag to launch the first CFP Flag Football Showcase during the 2027 championship weekend in Las Vegas, setting the stage for a new tradition that blends the rising sport of flag football with the nation’s most watched college football event.

Scheduled for January 22‑24, the showcase will be housed inside CFP Fan Central at the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where participants will compete in a three‑game format that mixes pool play with a single‑elimination bracket, giving teams from youth leagues to adult divisions a chance to shine on a national platform.

Registration opens on September 16, 2026, at 7 p.m. ET, inviting both male and female athletes across age groups to sign up, while the broader Fan Central experience promises free family‑friendly activities, clinics, pep rallies, autograph sessions and exhibits that celebrate the culture of college football.

Ryan Allen Hall, senior director of public events and sponsorships for the CFP, said the partnership reflects the organization’s desire to “introduce fans to flag football as part of the CFP’s biggest weekend,” underscoring the sport’s expanding footprint.

Charles Davis, founder and CEO of iFlag, called the collaboration a “milestone” in the growth of flag football, noting that the event places the sport alongside the iconic traditions of the College Football Playoff and signals its integration into mainstream college football narratives.

The showcase coincides with the CFP’s 12‑team bracket, which features conference champions from the Power Five conferences plus the top seven at‑large selections, with Notre Dame entering the mix if it cracks the top twelve, while the championship game itself will be played on January 25, 2027, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Executives from both the College Football Playoff and iFlag highlighted the event’s role in a broader surge of flag football participation, from youth leagues and girls’ high school programs to collegiate women’s competition and adult divisions, a trend that is reshaping how the sport is organized and perceived nationwide.
