Rapper and television personality William "Flavor Flav" Johnson has announced that he will foot the travel, glam and wardrobe bills for the U.S. women's hockey squad as they head to the ESPY Awards, where the team is in contention for the best‑team honor.
A Generous Play
The announcement comes as the Americans prepare for a live broadcast on ABC on July 15 at 8 p.m. ET, a stage that will showcase the growing visibility of women's sports. In addition to the financial support, Flav has called on corporations to step in and help the athletes cover any remaining costs.
Beyond the ESPYs, Flav is organizing a weekend celebration called She Got Weekend, a tribute to elite female athletes that will run from July 16 to 19 in Las Vegas. The event is being staged in partnership with MGM Resorts, which will host the festivities at its resort properties.
She Got Weekend was originally created to honor the team’s gold‑medal victory at the 2026 Winter Olympics, and it has since expanded to spotlight a broader roster of U.S. women athletes. The celebration will feature appearances by players such as Hilary Knight, who has been recognized as a leading figure in the sport.
Flav’s involvement underscores a growing trend of entertainers championing women’s athletics, and his offer may inspire further corporate sponsorships as the team readies for the awards ceremony.
