Rattlers Prepare for SWAC Media Spotlight
The Southwestern Athletic Conference will host its annual Media Day on Saturday, with Florida A&M’s newly appointed head coach Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. slated to lead the discussion alongside two of the program’s most promising players.
The Rattlers enter the event fresh off a 5‑7 campaign that marked their first losing season since 2017, a year that also saw the university impose NCAA Level Two sanctions after an academic‑progress‑rate review. Those penalties have stripped the team of postseason eligibility and eliminated spring practice for the 2027 calendar, adding a layer of urgency to the coach’s first public appearance.
Gray, who previously guided Albany State to a program‑record 12 wins, a SIAC championship and a Division II Black College Football National Championship, brings a proven track record of rapid turnarounds. His pro‑style offense, which helped the Bulldogs average 33.1 points per game, is expected to be the blueprint for reviving FAMU’s attack.
Among the roster pieces he will inherit are transfer quarterback Caleb Smith, who arrives from Albany State after a standout season that included 4,726 passing yards and 50 touchdowns, as well as holdovers such as Tommy Bridgewater, Kai Gadson and Chris Williams on the offensive line. The coaching staff also hopes to lean on the experience of players like Isaiah Knowles and Antonio Camon Jr., who have already begun to shape the team’s chemistry.
During the virtual press conference at 1:10 p.m. Eastern, Gray will field questions about the team’s strategy, the impact of the NCAA sanctions, and the roadmap to climb the newly released Black College Football poll where the Rattlers are positioned tenth. Observers expect a lively exchange as the coach outlines how the Orange and Green aim to become spoilers for HBCU contenders and ascend the SWAC rankings.
The Media Day broadcast will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern and will be streamed on SWAC TV, giving fans across the country a chance to hear directly from Gray, Knowles, Camon Jr., and the rest of the squad as they chart a course toward a more competitive future.
