Florida Contractor Arrested in $40,000 Home‑Renovation Scam

Michael Struhar of Sunshine State Contractor Services faces grand‑theft charges after allegedly diverting client funds to baseball cards

A couple in Palm Coast, Florida, handed over $40,000 to a local contractor promising a series of home‑renovation upgrades.

Michael Struhar, the owner of Sunshine State Contractor Services, began the job but soon stalled, leaving only a freshly painted wall and a half‑finished plan before disappearing.

Financial Misuse

Investigators discovered that the cash was not spent on materials; instead, bank records showed a series of Zelle transfers and cash withdrawals that matched purchases of signed baseball cards and other personal expenses.

Struhar’s ex‑wife later told authorities that he ignored a certified letter demanding a refund, further complicating the case.

Arrest and Release

An arrest warrant was issued for grand theft exceeding $20,000, and a bond of $50,000 was set. Struhar was taken into custody and later released on bond while the case proceeds.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly condemned the contractor’s deception, stating that such scams will be pursued relentlessly and that the department is committed to protecting consumers.

Authorities continue to investigate and have urged any additional victims to come forward and contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
