A Roster in Flux
The Florida Gators baseball squad saw its season cut short when it fell 10‑2 to Troy in the NCAA Gainesville Regional championship game, a result that left the team scrambling to regroup.
Adding to the challenge, nine seniors will depart, among them starting catcher Karson Bowen and left‑fielder Blake Cyr, leaving sizable holes in both defense and offense.
In response, the program turned to the transfer portal, securing right‑hander Maddox McDougall from Jacksonville State, who posted a 2.76 ERA last year, and catcher Jon Embury from Florida Gulf Coast, a prospect ranked No. 2 by Baseball America.
The departures also include left‑handed pitcher Rivers Kurland, infielder Cade Kurland, and redshirt freshman Kolt Myers, each of whom contributed modest statistics but were part of the team’s core.
With several other players eyeing the 2026 MLB Draft, the Gators must balance fresh talent with the need to develop home‑grown prospects, a strategy that could define the next chapter under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan.
