Florida Gators’ Offensive Line in Flux as Coach Sumrall Eyes New Starters

Coach Jon Sumrall highlights emerging talents Harrison Moore and TJ Shanahan Jr. ahead of the 2026 season

Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall opened up about the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the team’s first‑team offensive line as the program prepares for the 2026 season. The unit has been shuffled throughout spring drills, leaving the coaching staff searching for the right combination of talent and chemistry.

A Battle of Experience and Potential

Two names have emerged as the most promising candidates to anchor the line: junior guard Harrison Moore and redshirt junior guard TJ Shanahan Jr. Both transfers have brought a mix of pedigree and production that has caught the eye of the coaching staff.

Moore arrived from Georgia Tech after a season in which he logged 427 snaps at center and 254 at left guard. Pro Football Focus credits him with a flawless pass‑protection record, noting that he has not allowed a sack in 405 career pass‑protection snaps and has yielded just 15 quarterback pressures over 332 pass‑blocking attempts. His 66.7 run‑blocking grade further underscores his effectiveness in the trenches.

Shanahan, who transferred from Penn State, has experience at both right guard and left guard, having compiled 269 snaps at right guard and 147 at left guard last season. Coach Sumrall projects him to compete for the right‑guard spot in 2026, while his versatility adds depth to the interior line.

Veteran Knijeah Harris is slated to return at left guard, giving the group a familiar anchor. The coaching staff believes that continuity, combined with the new competition, will push the unit toward greater cohesion.

Sumrall praised the hard work of the entire line, emphasizing that the players have taken pride in their craft and have set new standards for work ethic. He noted that the group’s progress over the summer, both in technique and conditioning, suggests an upward trajectory as the team evaluates tackle options and positional depth.
