A New Face in the Outfield
Caden Davidson, a highly touted JUCO infielder from Gaston College, has officially committed to the University of Florida, joining the Gators baseball program for the upcoming season. The signing was first reported by Baseball America and has been confirmed by the university's athletic department.
Davidson arrives in Gainesville after a standout freshman campaign in which he posted a .500/.620/.989 slash line, hit 23 home runs and earned NJCAA All‑American honors. His blend of power, speed and defensive versatility made him one of the most coveted junior college prospects in the country.
The decision to flip from Wake Forest to Florida came after a series of coaching changes on the Demon Deacons staff, prompting Davidson to seek a program that aligned better with his development goals. He cited the Gators' aggressive recruiting approach and the opportunity to compete for a starting role at first base as key factors.
Coaches expect Davidson to battle for the starting first‑base position next spring, a spot that has been unsettled by the recent transfer of former starter Cade Kurland to the portal. In addition to Davidson, the Gators have added six other recruits this offseason while navigating a wave of player movement through the transfer portal.
The roster reshuffling comes at a time when the program is also watching potential MLB draft entries, with standouts such as Liam Peterson and Luke McNeillie expected to hear their names in July's draft. The NCAA Transfer Portal closed on Tuesday, marking the final deadline for teams to finalize their 2026 rosters before the draft begins on July 11.
