Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Earn ABCA Academic Excellence Award
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles baseball program celebrated a milestone as it was honored with the 2025‑2026 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, recognizing the squad’s outstanding scholarly performance alongside its on‑field competitiveness.
The team posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 for the 2025‑2026 academic year, with a spring semester average of 3.22 — the second highest mark in program history and the sixth straight semester the Eagles have maintained a team GPA of at least 3.00.
Head Coach Dave Tollett praised the players for their dedication, stating that “excellence in the classroom mirrors the intensity we bring to the diamond,” and highlighted the program’s commitment to developing well‑rounded student‑athletes.
Record‑Setting Academic Team
Four Eagles earned spots on the ASUN All‑Academic Team, the largest such contingent in school history. The honorees — Jaret Nelson, Ashton Pocol, Hunter Possehl and Logan Baisley — exemplify the blend of athletic and academic ambition that defines the program.
The award places FGCU among only three ASUN institutions recognized this year, joining Lipscomb and North Florida, underscoring the conference’s growing emphasis on academic achievement across its member schools.
Beyond the individual accolades, the team’s sustained academic performance reflects a culture shift within the program, where coaches, administrators and students collaborate to set high standards for scholarship and athletic competition.
