Finalists for Florida Mr. Baseball Showcase Elite Talent
The Florida Mr. Baseball award has become a benchmark for high school excellence, drawing attention from across the state each spring. This year, the final list narrows to a handful of players whose statistical dominance and leadership have set them apart in a crowded field of prospects.
Coleman Borthwick, a senior from South Walton, arrives at the final stage after a flawless 11‑0 record on the mound, a 0.21 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 68 innings. At the plate he batted .460, launching nine home runs and driving in 34 runs, underscoring his dual‑threat capabilities.
Ryan Harless, a junior from Mosley, complements his team’s 21‑9 record with a 10‑1 record as a pitcher, a 0.41 ERA and the same 121 strikeouts over 68 innings. Off the mound he posted a .398 average, contributed 18 RBIs and has already committed to playing at the University of Louisville.
Both athletes are more than just numbers on a stat sheet. Borthwick has signed with Auburn University and is projected as a first‑round candidate in the upcoming MLB draft, while Harless’s college choice adds another layer of intrigue to his already impressive résumé.
The recognition extends beyond the players themselves. South Walton’s head coach, Nick Borthwick, was recently honored as Class 3A Coach of the Year, reflecting the strong coaching environment that has nurtured these talents.
With the winners to be announced after a vote by coaches and media members, the anticipation builds around which of these standout performers will ultimately claim the title. The decision will not only celebrate individual achievement but also highlight the depth of baseball talent emerging from Florida’s panhandle.
