Roster reshuffle before fall camp
Florida State University's football program announced a roster adjustment in the lead‑up to the start of fall camp, confirming the departure of true freshman defensive end Chris Carbin. The move comes despite the player having signed with the Seminoles in December and being slated to redshirt his opening year.
Carbin arrived on campus with a reputation as a highly touted prospect from Hillgrove High School in Georgia, where he logged 39 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, seven sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as a senior. Rankings services listed him as the 731st overall prospect nationally, the 77th edge rusher and the 74th recruit in the 2026 class.
While his on‑field contributions will be missed, the Seminoles retain a deep pool of young linemen. In addition to Carbin, the roster includes Earnest Rankins, Franklin Whitley and Jaemin Pinckney, all of whom are also true freshmen, as well as a handful of upperclassmen who provide veteran depth.
Depth chart and future outlook
Coaches have emphasized that the loss of Carbin is not a catastrophic blow, pointing to the existing talent at the position. Players such as Jordan Sanders, Deamontae Diggs, Deante McCray, Daniel Lyons, Rylan Kennedy, Jalen Anderson and others are expected to shoulder more responsibility as the unit gels throughout the preseason.
The move also reflects a broader strategy of managing eligibility and development pathways for the program’s emerging defensive front. With four years of eligibility remaining, Carbin is expected to remain a key contributor in future seasons, even though he will not be available for the upcoming campaign.
The Seminoles’ defensive line remains a focal point of the team’s identity, and the coaching staff believes the current mix of youthful energy and seasoned experience will keep the unit competitive as the season progresses.
