The Florida State Seminoles have endured a turbulent stretch in their 2027 recruiting cycle, losing several verbal pledges in recent weeks. Yet the program found a bright spot when three‑star linebacker Olrick Johnson III announced his commitment on Tuesday.
A Commitment in Context
Johnson, a standout from Georgia’s high school ranks, concluded a junior season that featured 100 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks, numbers that placed him at No. 1202 overall and No. 135 among the state’s top prospects.
The recruitment saga had been anything but straightforward. After pledging to the Seminoles, Johnson fielded interest from LSU and a handful of other powerhouses, including Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, North Carolina State and Nebraska. In the end, he chose Tallahassee over those alternatives.
His decision adds to a linebacker corps that has already seen three new commitments this month, a development that has helped the Seminoles climb to No. 55 in the national team rankings. The class now comprises 13 verbal pledges, a modest but meaningful rise for a program seeking to rebuild its defensive identity.
Coaches and analysts alike see the addition as a signal of momentum. “Olrick brings a rare blend of size, speed and pass‑rush ability,” said one recruiting analyst. “He fits the mold of the modern linebacker the Seminoles have been targeting.”
