Florida State's defense is set to receive a boost as the program has locked in three linebacker commitments in recent weeks, a development that comes despite the loss of a four‑star prospect.
A Defensive Overhaul in Tallahassee
Coach Ernie Sims, who has taken on a more prominent role in the Seminoles' recruiting pipeline, has been credited with turning the tide, landing prospects that many thought were out of reach.
Among them is Olrick Johnson III, a three‑star linebacker who wrapped up his junior season with 100 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks, earning the No. 107 ranking among linebackers in the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite.
Johnson’s recruitment was fiercely contested; LSU extended a scholarship late in the process, but the player is barred from making an official visit to the Tigers until the fall, a restriction that shaped his final decision.
He ultimately chose Florida State over a host of other programs, including Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech, cementing his pledge to the Seminoles.
The class now stands at 12 verbal commitments and is positioned 56th nationally, while the team also retains a cadre of seasoned linebackers who will anchor the 2026 roster.
