A season of transition for the Seminoles
The Seminoles enter the 2026 campaign with a preseason placement that reflects both optimism and caution. CBS Sports has them at No. 47, a spot that barely cracks the top 50, while USA Today already lists them among the nation’s top‑25. ESPN’s ACC projection pushes them to ninth among the conference’s 17 teams, underscoring the belief that the roster could surprise.
Their schedule, however, is anything but forgiving. Games against traditional powerhouses Alabama, Miami and Clemson are slated for the fall, and oddsmakers have set the Seminoles’ win‑loss over/under at 6.5, a line that leans heavily toward the under. That figure captures the market’s skepticism about a team that has endured back‑to‑back losing seasons.
A demanding slate ahead
The uncertainty stems from a combination of recent defeats and a reshaped roster. Head coach Mike Norvell, now in his third year, has overhauled the depth chart, integrating fresh talent while trying to stabilize a defense that has been porous in recent years. The coaching staff’s adjustments are being watched closely as fall camp progresses.
Beyond the ACC, the Seminoles will also face Boston College, ranked No. 98, and New Mexico State at No. 128 in the broader schedule, but those matchups are unlikely to shift the over/under narrative. Instead, the marquee contests against Alabama, Miami and Clemson will serve as the primary barometers for whether the team can exceed expectations.
