No. 11 Florida State battled Miami to a 7-6 victory in an 11-inning marathon that swung the momentum in the Seminoles' favor late Tuesday night.
A Late Surge Defines the Game
The Seminoles erased a 6-1 deficit in the eighth, sparked by back-to-back homers from John Stuetzer and Brayden Dowd, and tied the game in the ninth when Eli Putnam launched a two-run shot.
Dowd’s composure paid off in the 11th, when he drew a bases-loaded walk that brought home Barrett and sealed a 7-6 win, sending Florida State to the quarterfinals.
Starter Chris Knier turned in a flawless 10th, striking out two, while reliever Kevin Mebil retired the side in order to set up the rally, and Wes Mendes had earlier limited Miami to four runs over six innings.
The win not only extends Florida State’s home streak to six games but also guarantees a double bye in the ACC tournament, with the next showdown scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
