A collaborative effort between Food City and the Petty family will run from July 1 through July 28, inviting shoppers to add a $1, $3, or $5 contribution at checkout. The initiative benefits Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization dedicated to delivering benefits, health care and employment opportunities to service members who have sustained spinal cord injuries.
A drive for veterans
Since 2011, Food City has helped raise more than $4.5 million for PVA, a figure that underscores the retailer’s long‑standing commitment to the veteran community. The current drive expands that legacy by channeling modest, voluntary donations into programs that assist disabled veterans across the southeastern United States.
Richard Petty, a NASCAR icon with a decade‑long record of charitable work, and his son Kyle Petty are participating in the campaign to amplify its reach. Both have spoken publicly about the importance of giving back to those who have served, and they will be featured in in‑store promotions throughout the period.
Paralyzed Veterans of America, headquartered in Washington, D.C., but active in multiple states, uses the funds to provide comprehensive support, including medical rehabilitation, vocational training and advocacy. The organization’s network extends into Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama, where Food City operates 162 stores.
The partnership illustrates how corporate philanthropy, sports figures and nonprofit missions can intersect to address the needs of a vulnerable population. By encouraging small, frequent contributions, the campaign aims to make a meaningful impact while engaging a broad base of customers.
