A Celebration of Consecutive Triumphs
The evening saw a wave of nostalgia as former members of the 2025 Abilene Christian University football squad gathered to receive championship rings that mark their back‑to‑back United Athletic Conference titles. Head coach Keith Patterson took the opportunity to remind the group of the legacy built by earlier championship teams, emphasizing the program’s tradition of excellence.
The rings themselves bear the inscription “Back2Back” and a subtle nod to the team’s flawless performance on its home turf, a detail that resonated with the alumni who had fought to keep that unbeaten streak alive. The design, crafted by the university’s athletic department, serves as a tangible reminder of the season’s highlights.
During the ceremony, several players opened up about how their time in Abilene reshaped their futures. Kaghen Roach, an All‑America defensive lineman, expressed deep gratitude toward the university and his teammates, while Quayde Hawkins, the quarterback, said that wearing the ACU jersey changed his life for the better.
Cade Fennegan, another quarterback, spoke of the friendships forged on the field, and Will Shaffer, an All‑America linebacker, recounted how being cut from Utah State made the opportunity at ACU feel like a second chance. Dorian Plumley, an All‑America defensive back, underscored the importance of building lasting relationships, a theme echoed by Javon Gipson, who urged peers to seize every opportunity that comes their way.
Sam Mason, Jr., a defensive back, and Jordan Vaughn, a running back, both highlighted the sense of community and pride instilled by Coach Person, noting that the experience extended beyond the sport and prepared them for life after college. Their stories collectively illustrate how the university’s program nurtures talent both on and off the field.
