A former baseball coach at Nashville, Illinois Community High School has been taken into custody after a grand jury returned a slew of criminal allegations.
Former Coach Chad Malwey Charged With Sexual Assault and Obstruction
The indictment alleges that Chad Malwey, 45, engaged in a pattern of misconduct that culminated in a criminal sexual assault charge and related offenses.
Prosecutors have levied one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, both classified as Class 1 felonies, which carry maximum sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
In addition, Malwey faces two misdemeanor counts of solicitation to obstruct justice and two counts of attempted obstruction, each punishable by up to one year in jail.
He remains detained at the Washington County Jail while awaiting his next court appearance, a status that underscores the seriousness with which the state views the alleged conduct.
The case emerged from a joint investigation conducted by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Nashville Police Department, with forensic support provided by the Illinois State Police.
Community Response and Ongoing Inquiry
School officials placed Malwey on administrative leave shortly after his arrest, pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
