Former Gonzaga forward Ben Gregg has agreed to a new deal with French Elite club SIG Strasbourg, securing his return for the upcoming season. The announcement came via the club’s Instagram, where Gregg expressed gratitude to the fans and excitement about building on last year’s experience.
A Strategic Return for Gregg
Gregg’s rookie campaign in Strasbourg was marked by steady production: 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game, coupled with a 39.5 percent three‑point shooting rate. His work on the glass and relentless hustle quickly made him a fan favourite and a reliable piece in the rotation.
The club finished the regular season with a 17‑13 record, earned a play‑in victory and then fell to top‑seeded Paris Basketball in the playoffs. Despite the early exit, the experience provided Gregg with a clearer sense of his role and the competitive standards of European basketball.
Next season he will again share the floor with former BYU standout Fousseyni Traore and Santa Clara guard Adama Bal, as well as other notable teammates such as Nathan De Sousa and Juwan Ekanga‑Ehawa. Their combined presence underscores the diverse, international mix that defines the squad.
Gregg’s return also shines a light on a broader trend: a growing pipeline that sends US‑born Gonzaga alumni to professional leagues across Europe. From Italy’s Trentino, where teammate Khalif Battle averaged 13 points, to Belgium’s Oostende and Portugal’s Benfica, former Bulldogs are making impact abroad.
Other notable alumni plying their trade overseas include Joel Ayayi, Kyle Wiltjer, Nigel Williams‑Goss, Silas Melson, Johnathan Williams and Geno Crandall, each carving out careers in leagues ranging from France to Lithuania and beyond.
