Dale Deon, once celebrated for his achievements on the ice, now serves a seven‑and‑a‑half year prison term after a court convicted him of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material, human trafficking and related crimes.
The case began when a complainant reported that Deon had child pornography stored on his computer. Police seized more than 26,000 images and 3,000 videos depicting the abuse of children, revealing a systematic pattern of exploitation that Deon compared to watching a car accident.
During the trial it emerged that Deon had shown the victim explicit material, forced her into sex work, created advertisements for clients and even attempted to manipulate her into becoming pregnant, believing a pregnancy would improve his legal standing.
After serving part of his sentence, Deon breached court‑ordered no‑contact directives by reaching out to the complainant and witnesses, an act that led to additional charges and underscored his disregard for the law. His mother, Susan Deon, was implicated in facilitating these contacts.
The impact on the victims was profound. The woman who had been coerced into sex work later became pregnant, only to be abandoned by Deon, who denied any responsibility for the child, leaving a lasting scar on those involved.
