Former Kansas basketball star Lagerald Montrell Vick was taken into custody in Memphis, Tennessee, on Tuesday, after authorities linked him to a July 4 shooting that left a partygoer wounded in the back.
Prosecutors have charged him with attempted first‑degree murder and with employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, according to Shelby County court records.

Vick’s four‑year tenure with the Jayhawks from 2015 to 2019 was followed by professional contracts in Mexico and New Zealand, where he showcased his versatility on the international stage.
The July 4 incident unfolded at a gathering where a verbal confrontation escalated, and the victim was shot in the back, later identifying Vick as the shooter.
He is currently being held at the Shelby County jail with a bond set at $1.5 million, while a separate case from April remains pending, alleging felony aggravated burglary, theft and vandalism.
